Cistercian monks, the members of the order with a strong building sense,
build the high gothic convent church in the centre the convent grounds in 1368. The sacral building is quite rightly called the 'perl of the North German clincker gothic' and is after newest evaluation, the most important Middle Age building in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Following the guide lines of their order, the monks build instead of a spire only a small steeple, the so-called 'ridge turret'. Inside, the great clearness of the design and the glowing glass paintings, impress the visitor. If you look towards the sky, past colourful pillars, you see the elaborate end-stones of the medieval arched ceiling (which can be seen from above at special guided tours).
